Agitator or Shrine to bring efficiency of thumpers up to 30%. That probably won't be enough alone, so focus on getting technology for coal mines or charcoal kilns.

You can also make your coal last longer: reduce your heating as far as possible without people freezing, and make sure you have enough medical care to handle them.

You got to disband scouts before the storm hits or they do die. I lost a few scout teams sitting at home when the storm hit. I believe I had the settings on easy as well.

As hard as it sounds I wished the Storm effects stacked, would create a massive challenge at the end. I understand why it isn't a thing but I wish we had an option for stacked effects

I don’t know much about this game aside from the basics, but isn’t letting the kids NOT work not just morally correct, but more efficient? I mean, you can get an infinite supply of workforces from the frostlands, but kids can make your medical posts or workshops far more efficient at absolutely no risk... Idk, child labour just seems like an unwise short-term solution.

                  • DDRJake
                    DDRJake   3 weeks back

You will eventually have everything researched, making child engineer help moot. Child medical help is always useful, but only takes affect during the daytime. You will also need 1 child shelter per 15 kids, which is a lot of space, resources and heating.

Child labour is always useful though, even when done for safe jobs. Hothouse, cookhouse, house of healing and gathering posts can always be put to use.

Do I say that child labour is best hands down. It's not just short term too, since early child labour accelerates the economy, allowing you to hit late game production far faster. It's the truly pragmatic choice.

I see child shelters as a way to add difficulty to a run, which can be nice in itself.

I notice Jake tends to go order, I do aswell. Faith has a few good abilities, such as field kitchen and faith hospitals. Whilst faith does have the shrine which is a stand in for an agitator, they lack the foreman ability. Combine an agitator with foreman and extended shifts + hothouses and extra food for the sick. Not only does order have more resource production, the lack of field kitchens can be solved by using your extra resources to upgrade buildings and get lots of tech for insulation and heat generation, and use heaters and steam hubs. Also with the large amounts of resources coming in, you can finish research early, which leads to having dozens of engineers jobless, which can then be put into infirmaries and sickbeds, add the food for the sick and you still probably out heal the faith hospitals. Not to mention, using foreman and emergency shift on your research stations is stupidly overpowered XD

Yep, Order increases production capacity massively, while also crushing discontent to allow for even more high production.

Conversely, Faith has early shrines and faith healing, which are strong early game, but don't hold a candle to Order in most situations.

I do love faith healing though.

@DDRJake Inconvenience is a softer term than what it would really describe in the game, but it is a good reason for someone to not become so dependent on some of the technology we've come to accept as part of every day life. Imagine how humanity would survive if something like this were to occur considering many people nowadays don't know how to hunt/gather for food, cultivate crops, perform first aid, build basic shelters, or even build a fire for heat. I consider it an inconvenience to not have a lighter to start a fire but I do know how to light one without needing one or matches. Someone without that skill would maybe see it as impossible. Struggle is in the eye of the beholder sometimes.
