A lot of commenters obviously not watching the video and just responding to the list provided in the comments section. Please note that, as stated in the video at the beginning, this is a personal list and my criteria are not about which are the best movies generally, but which in my personal opinion have the better sci-fi concepts with entertainment value as the secondary factor. A lot of my fave movies that happen to have a sci-fi element, such as merely being set in the future, didn't make the list because I didn't find the sci-fi ideas to be as impressive as the other genre appeals of those movies - eg, Predator's appeals lie mainly in the action and horror genres, Starship Troopers' appeals lie mainly in the action and social satire genres etc. I'll also add that for those who object to the inclusion of some children's movies, sci-fi doesn't have to be dark and serious. It can be fun too. Thanks folks :)

Yeah that makes no sense. I define sci-fi as when the humnan race is far ahead in terms of technology than we are today. If an Alien drops down to earth in a spaceship and starts killing people then it's not sci-fi in my book but a horror movie.

Fair enough it's your list but I don't understand how you can have John Carpenters The Thing on the list but count Predator separately when the two movies are incredibly similar.

I know you told us to calm down but it is more fun not to ;)

I don't see The Abyss as a science fiction movie. It's an "Alien" / "UFO" movie. I don't see Predator as sci-fi either.
Robocop IS sci-fi and should be high on the list. I don't get the argument why it is not sci-fi.

          Aliens at 21. Laughable.....

Starwars is Science Fantasy, not Science Fiction.
The Thing although a master piece is not sci-fi in my mind. It's a horror movie.

2001 is not even in my top 10. Borng movie.

Where is planet of the apes? Where is Colossus: The Forbin Project?

I made this quickly so may not be 100% but...:

          1. Alien
          (1979)
          2. The Terminator (1984)
          3. Robocop (1987)
          4. Aliens (1986)
          5. The Fly
          (1986)
          6. Planet of the apes
          (1968)
          7. Collossus The Forbin project
          (1970)
          8. WestWorld (1973)
          9. Andromeda Strain
          10. Terminator 2

The evil villain of Moonraker is Elon Musk today. Remember Elon is the guy that considers his fingers meat sticks... He was recently going back and forth with Jack Ma and it is easy to see how elon's message is "hurry before we all die".

Fantastic Planet; Zardoz; Planet of the Apes = plenty of concept AND entertainment.

Great list, especially adding The Matrix and Star Trek 1, but I totally disagree with you about Keanu Reeves' performance. Full disclosure I'm a massive fan but that began with that film. There's something.... spiritual.... about his character that i don't think a traditional action star cold even come close to capturing

It is so true: "Runaway" was unfortunately lost in a word that either wanted a Tom Selleck flick but couldn't get the sc-fi elements, or did not want Tom Selleck in their sci-fi film. Back in the day, after the film disapeared from theaters (I actually don't recall it ever being on the big screen!), it sort-of got a second life in the pay-TV and home video market, which I recorded off of, as I always thought the film had a great pacing and very convincing script-writing. Upon attempting to find a widescreen version of the film (i.e on DVD/Bluray) I was quite surprised at just how expensive this movie is (almost as though it was owned by the Disney/Marvel conglomerate). I mean you would think such a commercial "flop" would have meant bargain-bin pricing for the DVD, right? Oh and count me in as a "Prometheus" fan as well, as I too (and I think I already mentionned this) believe it could/would have worked better as a stand-alone film.

I love your videos but 2049 in its themes are much more dense and deep then upgrade. Upgrade is a very fun film in the vein of judge dredd but BR 2049 is a classic. I hope you give it another chance cus it’s a movie I could see you dissecting so well. I think it’s a modern classic along with Heriditary
